Figuretoon Quickies

"The Phantom Punch"
10/19/11

Bronze Tiger isn't very well-known outside of comics. Hell, he isn't really very well-known inside comics! But he does hold at least one claim to fame, and that's being able to beat Batman in a fight.

If you don't recognize the pose we swiped for this Figuretoon, there's something wrong with you. It's one of the most recognizable sports photos of all time, taken near the end of the second Muhammad Ali/Sonny Liston fight. The heavily favored Liston (7-1 odds) had fallen to the canvas, and Ali loomed above him, challenging him to "get up and fight, sucker!"

The title of this toon comes from that same fight: Ali swung and Liston fell, but there was some question over whether the punch actually connected. (Spoiler alert: it did.)
