Reload! Dedicated team leader and a master with a katana. Fortnite can really swing between extremes when it comes to integrating their collabs into the game. Even ignoring the ones that are just default skins in themed cosplay (looking at you, Ghostbusters!), you can never tell whether something will just get a random skin, or whether it will be part of the story. Chapter 5: Season 1 was about a syndicate of badguys taking over the island, and the good guys fighting back. They operated out of an underground train station, and when the TMNT were added in, they took over a section of the base, converting it into the Turtles' sewer lair. Like we said for Donatello, he was the only one to get an alternate style featuring different head accoutrements - so all Leonardo gets is the usual ble bandana over his eyes. His blank white eyes, since it's easier to draw comic characters like that, and now it's become part of the standard TMNT "look." While the trend in recent years has been to give all four brothers different bodytypes in order to differentiate them even more than their bandanas do. Fortnite bucks that trend, alas, so all these NECA figures are going to share the same underlying Bradley Morgan Johnson sculpt - arms, legs, shell both front and back... if you get one and don't like it, you're not going to be surprised by two, three, and four. Making this one's skin a slightly bluer shade can only hide so much. They're not exact, mind you: like, Donatello had wraps above his knees that Leonardo doesn't, so their legs didn't literally come out of the same steel mold, but neither are they radically different. Leo has leather spats over the wraps on his ankles, like Donnie, but his actually cover the heels where the other ones didn't. The straps over his chest are similar, with the two pouches right in the center, but he actually gets the full X shape instead of skipping the strap that goes under the right arm. Utility belt? Four pouches in the front. Straps on the thighs? Yes, but also two extra ones with more pouches. Wraps on the forearms? Yes, but now with fingerless gloves that have a thick, buckled cuff around the wrist. Knee- and elbow pads? Leather in the center, metal frame around the outside. This is its own thing, but it looks like part of a set. It's nice that there's something about Fortnite, as a license, that makes companies do better than usual with their articulation. Hasbro's other collector lines are just now starting to catch up with where The Victory Royale Collection was five years ago, Jazwares was hardly known for quality before their 6" Legendary Series (and is known for something else entirely today), and McFarlane Toys' return to any form of relevance in the 2020s started when they choce to make Fortnite action figures instead of plastic statues. NECA's Fortnite TMNT figures get all their usual kinds of joints, but also extra hinges in the hips. And Leonardo also gets a swivel for the ties on his mask, because his are long enough to warrant it where Donatello's weren't. The figure includes two pairs of hands: one pair of fists, and one pair to hold his katanas. The Fortnite katanas have grips with a rectangular profile instead of round, and the handguards follow suit. On the toy, the blades are painted two-tone silver, with a darker shade in a wavy pattern along the back edge. His backpack in the game is "Leo's Saya," a pair of crossed sheathes for the swords. One of them is the full length of the sword, with blue cloth tied around the top and gray cloth in the middle, while the other is just a short section that allows the blade to stick out. When you buy the figure, you get a code to redeem for an in-game emote, "Ninja Stance: Leo," which can be performed by any character. It was originally earnable for free in the game, too, so that's slightly less special. It doesn't diminish this toy in any way, but imagine if buying these got you the skins, like the Lego sets do. -- 09/03/26 How much stuff should be stuck to his body?
